We are seeking reliable, friendly, observant, and energetic Counselors to monitor after school children's activities and ensure the safety of all of our youth. This part-time seasonal employment opportunity works during the school year at the City of Independence Fieldhouse,

In this role, you will assist with planning and supervising daily activities including group play, quiet time, field trips and crafts. You'll help prepare, serve and clean up snacks and meals, and are directly responsible for ensuring that children follow safety rules. You will also need to be able to manage challenging situations and respond in the case of an emergency. You will play a key part in ensuring the wellbeing of all of our visitors while maintaining a fun and safe environment.

Program hours are 3 to 6 pm Monday-Friday, as well as full-days when the Independence schools are not in session.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise children throughout the day, remain alert and keep a watchful eye on all activities
  • Educate and then enforce all safety rules of the facility in effort to prevent hazardous situations or accidents

  • Provide information, instructions, and directions to children

  • Provide first aid, CPR or other care to when required

  • Identify and communicate any potential health, safety, or accident risks to the facility supervisor

  • Assist with setting up, cleaning up the facility for various activities

  • Maintain necessary records and reports

  • Collaborate with other staff to provide positive experience for the campers

  • Attend all staff meetings as required

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must be a high school graduate or have equivalent certificate

  • Able to work indoors and outdoors, with physical fitness level necessary to supervise children

  • CPR certification and other relevant medical training in emergency treatment protocol

  • Keen attention to detail with the ability to thoroughly monitor numerous different areas at once

  • Ability to react appropriately in stressful, high-pressure, or emergency situations

  • Compassionate, creative, patient and service-oriented attitude with a passion for working with children

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, must successfully communicate with children, parents and other staff members

  • Willingness to work independently and as part of a team

  • Must pass background check and drug screen
